Rob’s 150 mile bike ride to help 5 year old Raphael’s mobility

On 17th July 2016, Rob Padfield, our Lead Collaboration Engineer took on the challenge of cycling 150 miles, riding through, amongst other things, the very steep Cheddar Gorge.  Rob took on the challenge to help raise money for 5 year old Raphael who has severe cerebral palsy, due to being born 15 weeks prematurely and suffering a bleed on the brain.

In those early days when his parents were told to brace themselves for the worst, they made him a promise – that if he made it through, they would do everything they possibly could to give Raphael the best life possible.  Raphael receives some support from the NHS, but there is so much more in terms of equipment and therapies that would enrich his life and it was with this in mind that Rob has joined the fundraising effort.  A powered wheelchair and a race runner bike are just 2 items on the wish list, both of which will help give Raphael the mobility and independence that he longs for and help his parents to keep their promise.
